Sherwood College

Sherwood college is the oldest European school in Nainital. It was born in July 1867 and grew out of the need for a good school in a salubrious climate for the education of European boys . In the beginning it was a mixed school started by Miss Bradbury , later on it was separated for boys in 1869 and its first principal was Rev. E.Baston . The school was shifted to the present location in Ayarpatta Hill in 1897. Today Sherwood is considered as one of the premier institutions India and can boast of alumni like Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and film actors like Amitabh Bachhan.

Sherwood is boarding school mainly for boys from 3^rd to 12^th, the final examination for 10^th & 12^th are conducted through ICSE Board. The session of this institution starts in the month of March, the final examination except 10^th & 12^th are held in the month of November.

The St. Mary's Convent was established by mother Salesia Reiner in 1878. The school is only for girls from Prep to 12^th under ICSE Board. The institution has both boarding & day scholars mode. The present strength of students is around 1000.

The admission process starts right from the month of March when the registration forms can be purchased from the school for Prep & 1^st standard. The entrance test for these classes held in late September or early October. Established in 1888, St. Joseph’s is one of the educational institutions in India for boys conducted by the Christian Brothers. The school year extends from March to November . For admissions one may collect & submit application form up to 31^st July of the year . This residential public school is situated at an elevation of 7,800 ft run by Birla Family. It was established on 17^th July 1947. The college has classes from 4^th to 12^th standard under CBSE. This school is only for boys in boarding.
